1903:

1910s:

1920s:
America's first remedies included working together to try and improve driver behavior and the National Safety Council works to collect traffic statistics to help people understand the problem better so they can help.
1927:
Massachusetts passed the first law making it mandatory to have liability car insurance.
1930s:
Auto manufacturers use technology to make driving safer with everything from the seat belts and padded dashboards to energy-absorbing steering columns.

Today:

1950s:
Disc brakes, crumple zones and last but not least the three point safety belt.
1960s:
Annual driving tests, anti-lock brakes, automatic fuel cut off switch.
1970s:
Seat-belt laws, Traction control, Side impact protection.
1980s:
Airbags and rear seat belts are key.
1990s:
Things start to take off with:
- Full civilian access to GPS is given by the US government
- Telematics is invented in South Africa to tackle a massive car hijacking problem
- First vehicle tracking systems invented for fleet vehicles
- OnStar in-vehicle system launched in 1996
2000s:
Even more improvements are made with advances in:
